About

The story so far:

From the age of twelve onwards I was taught art in school, and my teacher provided early inspiration by exposing me to the album covers of the progressive rock group Yes, leading to a great desire to be a fantasy artist. Later I studied graphic design where I was exposed to vector drawings and composite layering which now inform my current work. However, the emphasis on desktop publishing did not interest me, so I began to study animation. My animation tutors encouraged me to develop the fine art aspects of my work and suggested I move towards larger scale work to develop my talent. I pursued this through evening classes in life drawing, portraiture and colour theory for a number of years. During this time I developed an interest in Renaissance art and approaches to visual composition. Also, at this time, an additional interest in media-based work led me to explore broadcast journalism and the process of creating a television program.

In 1998, my wife encouraged me to get a studio and to teach myself to paint. This period of painting in the studio culminated in an exhibition of abstract paintings in 2005.

I subsequently spent eight years engaged in academic study, a key part of which was in the field of spirituality. This has become the major theme that informs my art. In 2017 I began my current body of work in paint marrying spirituality and art. This work to date will be displayed in a public exhibition entitled 'Fruits of the Spirit' in 2020.
